A delegation from GILLBT, on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, paid a courtesy call on the new Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) -Rt Rev Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante at his office in Osu, Accra.

Congratulations

The delegation, led by GILLBT board chairman – Prof. E.V.O Dankwa congratulated the moderator on his election victory and welcomed him to his new role. A brief discussion on GILLBT’s engagement over the years with PCG followed. The delegation updated the moderator on the work GILLBT has done so far and our ongoing projects. Impressed by the impact of our work in Ghana, the moderator, assured the delegation of PCG’s support to mother tongue Bible translation.

Local funding

However, the moderator was displeased, learning that Ghanaians contributed only 20% of the total cost for mother tongue Bible translation in Ghana.

“Statistics are showing that the centre of gravity of Christianity has shifted to the south and therefore we must ensure that the resources also shift, otherwise we might lose the capacity to do so many things, I pray to God that this will happen,” he said.

He also called for a brainstorming session with the leaders of GILLBT, to identify strategies to boost and sustain local funding.  To increase GILLBT and other parachurch organisations visibility in PCG, the moderator explained, he will provide the platform at the PCG General Assembly for presentations to be made by these parachurch organisation on the impact of their work.
